Despite Disturbed Waters
(2024)

Despite Disturbed Waters is an audiovisual 3D performance where the past and future converge in an immersive, dystopian experience. Utilizing historical images and sounds from the Beeld en Geluid archive and the Philips Museum, this performance tells a modern story about (water) pollution, technological advancement, and the power of the non-human.

The choice of outdated 3D technology, featuring stereoscopic green/magenta glasses, not only evokes nostalgia but also prompts reflection on the cost of technological development. Like the innovations of Philips, which originated in Eindhoven, this technique symbolizes an era of limitless progress. At the same time, the performance reveals the downside: the disrupted balance with the non-human world, and the question of whether we must relinquish our technological dreams to merge with these other forces.
